After three weeks I have finally got some news back from the shop on my car. Can’t quite remember where I left off here but the timing belt didn’t snap. One of the timing pulleys disintegrated. Engine came out. Heads came off. Heads are cracked. Guy at the shop is pretty much looking for used heads or a whole new engine. Hopefully he can find a nice used engine and I can be on my way to pay off the repairs and start saving up for a new car. Basically I’m in a shitty mood and have no idea what to do with this car. Also, it’s near impossible to find a USDM EJ205 for sale somehow they are all JDM and I don’t want to deal with any of that shit.

Thanks. I'm hoping he can find something for a reasonable part or I may try to part some things out and get rid of it

my brother had a legacy GT that munched a turbo and needed a new engine, he had the shop put a new engine in it and sold it for a sum that was still worth doing. he lost money but not a ton. Thankfully subaru resale in Utah is high.

How’s the rest of the car? If it’s the only problem, might be worth fixing. On the other hand, if it needs another 3 grand or more to put it right ....

That thought has also crossed my mind. I would rather sell a working car than one with no motor

I have a feeling it will be about 2-3k if he can find a deal on something. The rest of the car is great short of dents and dings. I recently replaced a bunch of parts and fluids.

I feel for ya. Will it really be worth rebuilding, vs. swapping in a new engine? Complete EJs can be found for <3k

It would probably be the same so a swap would be the way to go with less miles than mine has

Used engine should be ... $800-1500 depending on where you are - $700 labor to put it in? Maybe do it yourself? I put in a clutch once (with a pal) and did a differential. And rebuilt one carburetor twice (and the other one once). It’s mostly following directions.
